  Some people believe that international news should be included into the

  subjects in secondary schools.

  To what extent do you agree or disagree?

  Whether or not international news should be brought into the curriculum in middle schools has become an issue that attracts significant concerns from the general public. (Different interpretations regarding it have been noticed.) Some individuals hold a positive attitude, asserting that it is beneficial to students, while others maintain a contrary standpoint. As far as I am concerned, adding it to school curriculum is questionable.

  It is undeniable that international news is of certain benefits to students. As a matter of fact, it contributes to improving their capacity, including widening their horizons and enhancing their ability to analyze, both of which are able to endow secondary school students with a global perspective.

  In spite of the benefits mentioned above, it is worthwhile to note that such a practice may lead to some problems. The first point that needs to be taken into consideration is that this practice will exert adverse influence upon students’ school works, in the sense that students have to spend so much time watching and reading international news. As a result, less time is available for them to work on their course works. It is crucial to take the value of time into account while discussing this issue.

  Beyond the point demonstrated above, there lies a more in-depth reason that supports my point of view: International news with complicated contents is beyond the scope of students’ knowledge. To be more specific, students are likely to be confused by scholars’ comments and arguments from the news, which are deep, complex and sophisticated. Thus, the complexity of international news will go against motivating students’ learning enthusiasm.

  To conclude, the discussion cited above demonstrates that introducing international news to secondary schools may be of adverse impacts, involving tight time budget and complex contents. It is safe to reaffirm my standpoint that I disagree to include it into the curriculum design of secondary schools.

  Recent discussions with regard to the education of children have gained high attention from the general public. Individuals with different backgrounds hold different interpretations regarding this issue. Some hold the perspective that parents should shoulder the responsibility of children’s education. Others maintain the viewpoint that educational institutions are of obligation to do it. Both sides of the issue have reasonable layers.

  Individuals who persist that parents are responsible for children’s development have their sound reasons. The first point lies in the fact that home is widely regarded as the place where the impartment of knowledge to children begins. To be more specific, as the first teacher of children, parents can devote efforts to supervising and urging children to learn knowledge and social values, including the behaviors that they are expected and the roles that they will play in the community. Furthermore, it is worthwhile to note that parents have an intimate familiarity with children’s personality traits, which facilitates children’s education. To exemplify it, consider such a case: parents can teach children on the basis of their dispositions. For those children who are introverted, parents can impart them with interpersonal skills and teach them how to get along with others in society.

  Nevertheless, individuals, on the other side, suggest that schools’ role in educating children is conspicuous. Firstly, it can be observed easily that educational institutions set up a setting which is analogous to a community. To be more specific, at school, children have opportunity to cooperate with peers at a similar age. Such a cooperation or teamwork spirit will help children to become desirable social members. What is also worth noticing is that teachers are able to implement individualized education. For instance, teaching methods can be designed to best adapt to children, which give rise to effective impartment of knowledge and social values.

  The discussion cited above demonstrates two viewpoints concerning children’s education. The former focuses on the importance of parents, while the later concerns about the significance of schools. With every aspect taken into consideration, it is safe to conclude that both of them contribute to enhancing children to be desirable social members.

  2. Compare the advantages and disadvantages of pocket money.

  It has been a controversial issue as to whether parents should provide children with pocket money. People seldom reach an absolute consensus. Some maintain that pocket money is conducive to children. Others, however, advocate that it exerts negative impact upon children’s development. As far as my standpoint is concerned, pocket money is of both advantages and drawbacks.

  The advantages of pocket money can be presented by the demonstration to follow. The primary advantage is that pocket money renders children gain access to the products they prefer. Put another way, they can make decision to purchase by themselves. It facilitates children’s ability of budget management and, simultaneously, promotes their awareness of self-determination. The second strong point is that it contributes to saving parents’ time. To be more specific, offering pocket money to children helps those parents, who have tight time schedule, to save time spent on shopping for children, which can be used in dealing with daily job affairs.

  The drawbacks, nevertheless, of pocket money should not be negligible. The first disadvantage is associated with children’s abuse of pocket money. To be more accurate, young children possibly consume all the money to purchase expensive merchandises that they like. Furthermore, owing to the fact that some adults do not supervise the use of pocket money, they may purchase something that is not fit for their age, such as adult magazines. The other drawback is related to parents’ misleading. To further demonstrate, consider such a case: Some parents are indulgent to children and always provide them with a large amount of pocket money. Such decisions will lead children to become increasingly prodigal.

  The discussion cited above demonstrates two viewpoints concerning pocket money. The former focuses on the advantages of pocket money, while the later concerns about its drawbacks. With every aspect taken into consideration, it is safe to conclude that it may result in desirable consequence, depending on proper application from both parents and children.

  Discuss the causes of juvenile crime. What solutions can you suggest to deal with it?

  The issue of juvenile delinquency has been obtaining significantly remarkable concern from the general public. The factors leading to this problem and the solutions to it have widely aroused attention of the society. In my point of view, the following reasons should be taken into consideration: negative influence of mass media, youths’ tendency to be rebellious and high divorce rate.

  The first reason lays emphasis on the adverse effect of commercialized mass media. To be more specific, publishers of books and program producers are more concerned about profits than quality. Thus, obscene books and violent movies are overflowing. To solve it, the government should strengthen censorship with respect to mass media. Equally important, there should be more educational books and programs for young children.

  Another factor that needs to be considered seriously is that modern youths are more intractable and independent. To further demonstrate, consider such a case: Some youths tend to throw away all the traditional principles and beliefs, most of which are conducive to self-cultivation. Simultaneously, they are reluctant to listen to the advice from elder generation. The solution to this problem is improving mutual understanding between parents and children by more effective communication.

  The third cause which is worthwhile to emphasize is that the number of single-parent family exhibits a tendency of increase. For instance, children in single-parent family have feelings of being neglected and isolated. To be more accurate, the concerns from both sides of parents, which are significantly necessary to children’s development, are lacking. To tackle it, parents are expected to spend much more time staying with their children and patiently carry out the duty of caring and educating.

  To conclude, juvenile delinquency results from media, rebellious behaviors and divorce. In order to approach to this problem, several solutions are set forth, including supervision on mass media, communication between children and elder generation and parents’ shouldering responsibility of concern and education.
